Brenda A.
Brenda didn't join Timber & Steel because someone told her she needed to get in shape. She joined because she wanted something close to home, connected to her community, and personal.
"I wanted a place close to home, where I could support my community, and I wanted a personal experience."
Her goals when she walked in were straightforward. She wanted to gain strength and stamina. She wanted to feel better and look better. And she wanted to do it somewhere that felt safe.
What she's built since then has been quiet and steady. Brenda says she feels stronger now, and friends have noticed. "I feel stronger and have had friends tell me I look good and look healthy." That kind of feedback matters more when it comes from people who see you every day, not from a scale or a mirror.
The changes haven't stayed inside the gym either. Brenda says she has more motivation in everyday life. Not the kind that comes from a poster on the wall, but the kind that shows up because your body is working better and you know you earned it.
A big part of what's kept her going is the way she's been coached. "I always feel supported by the staff and the members," she said. "I appreciate the training format and the time spent on breaking down movements and appropriate postures." That's what good coaching looks like. Not pushing harder for the sake of it, but taking the time to teach someone how to move well so they can keep showing up with confidence.
Brenda is honest about where the work still feels hard. Nutrition has been her biggest challenge, specifically building consistent meal structure. But she's not ignoring it. She's putting focus into protein at each meal and increasing her water intake. That kind of simple, deliberate attention is exactly how progress works.
One of the things she's most proud of is surprising herself. "I continue to surprise myself by doing things I didn't think my body could do." That sentence says more than any highlight reel ever could.
When asked what she'd say to someone who feels uncertain about starting, Brenda kept it simple:
"Do something for YOU, and don't underestimate yourself."
Next up, she's focused on improving her form and continuing to increase weights.
Brenda, thank you for being part of this community. Your consistency and your willingness to keep showing up speak for themselves.
Brenda joined Timber & Steel looking for strength, stamina, and a personal experience. What she found was a place where she's supported, challenged, and consistently surprised by what she's capable of. Her advice to anyone on the fence: "Do something for YOU, and don't underestimate yourself."
